XL Construction was established May 21, 2010 in Laurel, MD, where it is currently headquartered. SBA Certification and entrance into the 8(a) program came in 2016. XL’s founder, Praful Patel, developed his 20 years of experience in the construction industry from working his way up the project management career path. He was initially involved in his family construction business in India and then learned the processes of government construction by working 10 years at a local 8(a) construction firm in the DC metro area. From these experiences and connections in the industry, he developed his own team, bringing the skills and knowledge of contracting in the federal sector to create XL Construction.
XL Construction is an SBA Certified 8(a) and HUBZone General Contractor, performing construction contracts in the mid-Atlantic region. The majority of the company’s contracts are with federal and state government agencies.
The core specialty is Design-Build projects, in which XL’s team collaborates with established Architectural and Engineering firms to develop client solutions for design, specifications and then construction of the project, from start to completion. Additional company certifications are with the Maryland and District of Columbia Departments of Transportation (MDOT and DDOT), as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE).
Mr. Patel has a philosophy of using the highest quality resources in his construction projects – everything from design professionals, equipment and materials, to highly qualified and trained management and supervisory staff. XL Construction reflects these standards in their key personnel credentials. Those in leadership positions hold degrees in Construction Management, Architecture and Project Management. Current certifications are maintained through training in OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health, EN 385-1-1, US Army Corps of Engineers/NAVFAC certification for Construction Quality Management for Contractors and Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control.
